it run large! September 4, 2010 dominic I ordered mine last week and I love it! I have the tan colored and boy oh boy Im very happy to have it but I wrote this to tell you that i normally buy 8 1/2 for shoes and everyone say it run large and it is! I gamble and bought 8 and they are right, it fits me and more i can also wear a thick socks and no problem. I appreciate all the review It sure help me to decide especially the size! Thank you!
DON'T BUY August 22, 2010 Maddie 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't bother buying this boot. It's not Dark Brown, they will send you "Vintage Western Leather", which is at least four shades lighter than the picture. I was incredibly dissatisfied and had to return the boots. The only good thing was they sent me a free return label.
Fantastic Boots! August 14, 2010 Omieluv (Chicago, IL) This is my first pair of Frye boots and I am very pleased with the quality of this product!
With regards to fit, I ordered a half size down, as per several reviews I read on this boot. In other words, I normally wear an 8, so I ordered a 7.5. My calves are also wide, so I was worried about the boot's circumference(14.5 inches)in relation to my calf, however, these boots hit just under them, so it was not a problem (I am 5'8"). In fact, there is ample room at the top for me to slide my hands up and down when tucking in my jeans, so there is room to work. They even seem to slouch a bit, which is fun. In terms of the foot, the heel is roomy, but it is tight across the toe-box area, which I am going to guess will stretch over time. In other words they start narrow at the top of the foot and go wider toward the heel. I am sure tights and thinner socks will not be a problem, but I do not see myself being able to wear a thick boot sock. If you want to be able to wear a thicker sock, order your normal size, however, you might find them very roomy if you plan to wear tights. For people with wide feet, I would suggest you try these on at the store before ordering online. My feet are medium to narrow, so I was able to wear these for about an hour around the house with little discomfort. I do not feel ready to walk in them all day (I have had them for 3 days), so I am going to keep wearing them around the house until they stretch). I also need to consider that it is hot outside, so it is possible my feet are more swollen now than they will be once the weather cools off.
My next pair of boots will be from Frye! Though, I plan to try a different style, just to add variety to my wardrobe. From my research, I have found Frye boots run differently in size from style to style, so really read customer reviews of boots you might be interested in. It is also worth noting that not all Frye boots are made in the USA. I happen to know that the Harness style is made in the USA and I believe the Engineer style is as well. So if this is important to you, really do your research. For instance, I have been eying the Veronica Slouch style, but those are made in Mexico.
Overall, these are a great pair of boots and I cannot wait to wear them this Fall!
PS>>>>I forgot to comment on the weight of these boots. I read many reviews where people complained about how heavy these are. To be honest, I do not find them heavy at all as far as boots go. Heavy to me is the weight of a steel-toe work boot (the kind people have to wear in factories to protect their feet), those are heavy!
Lovin' the Leather! July 29, 2010 A. Haag (San Diego, CA USA) I have owned Fryes for quite a few years, my first being the Campus boot. I loved that, and so bought a couple of cute Frye mules, too. After reading reviews, I bought those shoes in a half-size smaller, but that may have been a mistake for me. I just received the Harness in my usual 7.5M, pulled them on, and now want to go to sleep in them, they're that comfy. I bought these to go with a new "motorcycle" jacket I'd bought and now I'm thinking I can wear them even in our balmy summer weather! The size also gives me the option to wear thick winter socks when the weather changes. Ladies, even at 55 you can keep lovin' the leather -- especially when it's from Frye!
The kind of quality "Made in the USA" guarantees... March 20, 2010 SF Penguin (San Francisco, CA) Wow....I just cannot say enough about these boots. This is my first pair of Frye boots, and I must say that the quality is absolutely impeccable. The leather is thick and supple and the craftsmanship is out of this world. I wholly agree with the majority of the other reviewers about the sizing of these boots...I am a true size 6 and ordered a 5 1/2 in these and they fit perfectly. (For reference, in brands that run smaller such as Asics, Nike and Keen I am a 6 1/2 and in those that run more true to size like Merrell, Nine West and Clarks I wear a size 6). Order a half size smaller and they will fit you perfectly. I was debating getting these for a while, and I am so glad that I did. They are sexy, classic, comfortable, and I can tell that I will be wearing them for many years to come!
